Christina Aguilera is craving a lover for the night in the titillating “Your Body.”
A breathless “ah huh” and predatory synths opens the single, setting a hungry tone. In the first verse, she heads for the club to find a guy. There are no physical requirements. He only has to be willing. She catches the eye of a guy. She lets him slip his hands around her waist on the dance floor. She turns to him as his hands reach her thighs. (“I came here tonight to get you out of my mind/I’m gonna take what I find (uh oh, yeah)/So open the box, don’t need no key, I’m unlocked/And I won’t tell you to stop (uh oh, yeah).”
In the pre-chorus, she tells him she doesn’t care how many partners he’s had. They do not have talk about their hopes and dreams to justify their sleeping together. She only wants to figure out if they are going to his place or hers and leave as soon as possible. (“Hey boy/I don’t need to know where you’ve been/All I need to know is you and no need for talking (hey boy)/So don’t even tell me your name/All I need to know is whose place/And let’s get walking.”)
In the chorus, she says she only wants to have sex. (“All I wanna do is love your body/Oh oh oh oh/Tonight’s your lucky night, I know you want it/Oh oh oh oh/All I wanna do is love your body/Oh oh oh oh/Tonight’s your lucky night, I know you want it/Oh oh oh oh.”)
In the second verse, she assumes he already knows about her. She confirms the rumors about her reckless sexual reputation are true. She’s in control and lets him know that if he isn’t satisfying her, she’ll take over. (“It’s true what you heard, I am a freak, I’m disturbed/So come on and give me your worst (uh oh, yeah)/We’re moving faster than slow/If you don’t know where to go/I’ll finish all from my own (uh oh, yeah).”)
The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.
In the bridge, the syth beat circles around cheeky “do do do’s” In it, he moans her name as she’s kissing him. (“I think you already know my name/I think you already know my name/Hey hey, Ha!, Alright, Say/I think you already know my name.”) The bridge ends with the synth beat slowing down. It then pushes itself faster and faster, spinning as high as it can get and then explodes before getting back to the chorus.
The chorus is sung again to close the song.
Aguilera’s carnal, dominant vocals stop the material from becoming slutastic, blurry low-budget porn. Her bold voice allows her to be a woman who simply enjoys sex for the pleasure of it without landing into the trashy hobag advertising herself on craigslist category.
Dance music is incredibly hard to pull off. Aguilera’s early remixes (specifically,Thunderpuss “What A Girl Wants”) showed she could fit in the genre, if she choose to do so. Euro pop trance is usually the safest choice since its suits a majority of voices. It’s also reminiscient of 2002’s “Dirrty” and in the US, people found out how overtly sexual she can be. Right now, she needs the US to know she still exists. “Your Body” differentiates itself from her older material and is a step forward from the failed singles “Bionic.”
