My Life Would Suck Without You
Album: All I Ever Wanted
Kelly Clarkson and her boyfriend make up after a fight in the charming “My Life Would Suck Without You.”
An excited guitar opens the guitar, all aflutter. She hears a knock on the door. She checks to see who it is and it’s her boyfriend holding a bouquet of flowers. She folds her arm across her chest and says “so this means you’re sorry?” He answers yes and says he didn’t mean it. He was upset and angry about something that happened at work. He shouldn’t have taken it out on her. (“Guess this means you're sorry/You're standing at my door/Guess this means you take back/All you said before/Like how much you wanted/Anyone but me/Said you'd never come back/But here you are again.”)
In the chorus, she tells him to come in and they’ll get something eat. She really doesn’t know what to do with him sometimes. But she loves him. He makes her laugh and he drives her crazy. Oh well. If she ever lost him, she would regret it. (“Cause we belong together now, yeah/Forever united here somehow, yeah/You got a piece of me/And honestly. My life (my life) would suck (would suck) without you.”)
She admits it was some of her fault, too. She escalated their argument further. She reasons they are both pretty damaged from previous relationships. However, wondering if he’ll ever speak to her again caused her to worry. (“Maybe I was stupid for telling you goodbye/Maybe I was wrong for trying to pick a fight/I know that I've got issues/But you're pretty messed up too/Either way I found out/I'm nothing without you.”)
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, they bicker when they are together. She’ll drive home crying, asking herself why does she stay. She figures they can still work out their problems. They both could do some growing up. (“Being with you is so dysfunctional/I really shouldn't miss you/But I can't let you go/Oh, yeah.”)
The chorus is sung twice to end the single.
Clarkson’s affectionate exasperasted vocals know exactly what he’s like. Yeah, it annoys her but it’s also why she’s attracted to him. They don’t mean their bickering. However, it sometimes get outs of control. Fortunately, it’s not seen as unhealthy. They are simply two stubborn people who like to be right. Neither wants to cave. Everyone has met a couple who has done the exact thing while trying to the shortcut to take.
The forgiving “My Life Would Suck Without You” is far from toxic and is rather sweet.
