Omi

Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Remix)

Album: N/A

Year: 2014

Omi has found a supportive girlfriend in the smiley  “Cheerleader.”

A lingering saxophone opens the single, setting an initmate tone.  He doesn’t think he can get through the day. He picks up his phone and sees a picture of him and his girlfriend standing underneath a palm tree. She’s willing to talk to him. There are times when he’s out by himself and girls try to chat him up. He simply inserts his girlfriend into the conversation to shut it down. He misses her when she’s gone away, it’s as though he can’t function. (“When I need motivation/My one solution is my queen/Cause she stay strong (yeah yeah)/She is always in my corner/Right there when I want her/All these other girls are tempting/But I'm empty when you're gone/And they say.”)

In the pre-chorus, the girls still try to fish for compliments and ask him out. (“Do you need me/Do you think I'm pretty/Do I make you feel like cheating/And I'm like no, not really cause.”)

In the chorus, he says he already has found the perfect woman for himself. (“Oh I think that I found myself a cheerleader/She is always right there when I need her/Oh I think that I found myself a cheerleader/She is always right there when I need her.”)

She has fantastic posture and walks with an air of elegance. She does whatever he wants. He just has that power over women. (“She walks like a model/She grants my wishes like a genie in a bottle (yeah yeah)/Cause I'm the wizard of love/And I got the magic wand/All these other girls are tempting/But I'm empty when you're gone/And they say.”)

The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.

In the bridge, she pays attention to him. He doesn’t have any intention to start dating anyone else. His mother adores her. She is always inviting her to her house and calling her up. He plans to ask her to marry him soon. (“She gives me love and affection/Baby did I mention, you're the only girl for me/No I don't need a next one/Mama loves you too, she thinks I made the right selection/Now all that's left to do/Is just for me to pop the question.”)

The chorus is sung again to end the single.

Omi is proud to have a great girlfriend. However, it seems she exists solely for him. What about her wants and needs?

The  singsongy “Cheerleader” gets the side-eye.
