CeCe Peniston

Finally

Album: Finally

Year: 1991

CeCe Peniston finally meets her soulmate in the exhilarating  “Finally.”

Exuberant synths open the single, setting a triumphant tone.  She thought she was going to be single forever. Her ideal would give her such an intimate look of love that she would blush. Then, she was able to experience the moment. Everything with him feels right. He knows she cares about him. However, he doesn’t realize the extent of her feelings. (“Meeting Mister Right, the man of my dreams/The one who shows me true love or at least it seems/With brown cocoa skin and curly black hair/It's just the way he looks at me, that gentle lovin' stare/Finally you've come along/The way I feel about you, it just can't be wrong/If you only knew the way I feel about you/I just can't describe it, oh no, no.”)

In the chorus, she is part of a healthy “we.” There aren’t any complaints about why he isn’t home. She can trust him. He tells her how he feels. They are discussing their future. (“Finally it's happened to me/Right in front of my face/My feelings, can't describe it/Finally it's happened to me/Right in front of my face/And I just cannot hide it/Finally it's happened to me/Right in front of my face/My feelings, can't describe it/Finally it's happened to me/Right in front of my face/And I just cannot hide it.”)

She’s had several false starts. Men she believed who loved her but only wanted sex. However, her boyfriend is there to help with the dishes and talk about his day. She knows that she is who he wants. (“It seems so many times he seemed to be the one/But all he ever wanted was to have a little fun/But now you've come along and brightened up my world/In my heart I feel it I'm that special kind of girl/Finally you've come along/The way I feel about you, it just can't be wrong/If you only knew the way I feel about you/I just can't describe it, oh no, no.”)

                        The chorus is sung again.

In the bridge, she celebrates having found a good man. (“Finally/Oh, finally, yeah, yeah/Oh, oh/Baby, baby, yeah, yeah, oh.”)

A shortened chorus ends the single. (“Finally it's happened to me/Right in front of my face/My feelings, can't describe it/Finally it's happened to me/Right in front of my face/And I just cannot hide it/Finally, oh yeah/Finally, oh yeah.”)

The  invigorated “Finally” can fit into era and sound just as great.
