Alicia Keys

No One

Album: As I Am

Year: 2007

Alicia Keys has found love in the  stripped  “No One.”

An enarmoured piano opens the single, setting an affectionate tone.  She kisses her hand and places it on the computer. Her husband, on the other side of the screen, does the same. She says he misses him and can’t wait until he gets home. He tells her not much longer and take a look inside the pantry. Once finished, she walks to the pantry and finds a note from him, hidden behind a couple cans of vegetables – “I’m always thinking of you.” She smiles to herself. Their relationship only grows more everyday. (“AliciaI just want you close/Where you can stay forever/You can be sure/That it will only get better.”)

In the pre-chorus, they’ve had their arguments. There have been times she hasn’t even looked at him. Nonetheless, they work it out. Whatever they face, they can handle. (“You and me together through the days and nights/I don't worry 'cause everything's gonna be alright/People keep talking, they can say what they like/But all I know is everything's gonna be alright.”)

In the chorus, he’s a great person and an outstanding husband. She’ll defend him every chance he gets. Her mind won’t be changed by anyone. (“No one, no one, no one/Can get in the way of what I'm feelin'/No one, no one, no one/Can get in the way of what I feel for you/You, you/Can get in the way of what I feel for you.”)

On her awful days, he will get her to talk about what is going on. He’s there for her like no one else has ever been. She can count on him and it’s all that counts. (“When the rain is pouring down/And my heart is hurting/You will always be around/This I know for certain.”)

The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.

In the bridge, she says they are fortunate. Most people don’t get to experience a love like theirs. Out of jealousy, they will spread rumors and try to break them up. (“ I know some people search the world/To find something like what we have/I know people will try, try to divide something so real/So till the end of time I'm telling you.”)

A minor variation on the chorus is sung again. (“There ain't no one, no one, no one/Can get in the way of what I'm feelin'/No one, no one, no one/Can get in the way of what I feel for you.”)

Keys finally has someone she can call her own. She doesn’t know what she do without her husband. He has given her so much by just being there.

The unguarded “No One” has inner peace, a new feeling.
