Before Your Love
Single: A Moment Like This/Before Your Love
Year: 2002

In a mediocre romantic comedy, the man and woman reunite in a park, after a series of misunderstandings, which could’ve been easily solved if they had bothered to communicate properly. They then profess their undying love to each other. In the background, the music swells as the lovers hug and kiss, telling each other how wrong they have been. Cue end credits and the sappy single, playing as the screen fades to black.

Before Your Love would be that sappy single. It’s over the top and theatrical. Clarkson is madly in love and wants to tell the world about it, even if she appears to have had no life whatsoever before she met him. “And I don’t know how/I survived without your kiss/’Cause you’ve given me a reason to exist.” It’s a co-dependent, pitiful song without any emotion to it. The one good vocal moment Clarkson has in the first time the chorus is sung (1:24.) Her voice is gentle and pleasant. However, the rest requires her to belt out of range, free of restraint.
