When You Kiss Me
Album: Up!
Year: 2003

Shania Twain has found her soulmate in the lusterless ballad "When You Kiss Me."

Airy guitars open the single, creating a romantic atmosphere. A breathless Twain says she finally has a boyfriend she wants to marry. She's certain it's the real emotion. They are compatible and the relationship is practically effortless. She has found someone of her own to cherish and adore. "This could be it, I think I'm in love/It's love this time/It just seems to fit, I think I'm in love/This love is mine."

In the pre-chorus, she comments that she can picture them sitting on the porch when they are 80 and gray. She has a lifetime companion in him. With him, her problems disappear and they focus only on each other. "I can see you with me when I'm older/All my lonely night are finally over/You took the weight of the world off my shoulders (the world just goes away.")

In the chorus, she says the softness of his lips upon hers and his tender touch express his love for her. They melt into each other and forget the rest the world when they are together. ("Oh, when you kiss me/I know you miss me/And when you're with me/The world just goes away/The way you hold me/The way you show me that you/Adore me/oh, when you kiss me/Oh, yeah.")

She tells him he's "The One" she's been dreaming about forever. With him, her life has a new, deeper meaning. She's going to spend the rest of her life with him. It's the way she imagined love to be. "You are the one, I think I'm in love/Life has begun/I can see the two of us together/I know I'm gonna be with you forever/Love couldn't be any better (the world just goes away.")

After the chorus, Twain "yeah's" and "oh's" over a starry-eyed guitar solo.

The pre-chorus and chorus are both sung once to close the single.

The drab "When You Kiss Me" fails due to Twain's sleepy vocals. Her tendency to mumble to convey dreaminess is vapid. The music accompaniant is relaxing and idyllic which matches the single's tone. However, Twain's vocals do not have the emotional depth to carry the single.
