Dress You Up
Album: Like A Virgin
Madonna is sexually attracted to a wealthy man in the charismatic "Dress You Up."
Red-blooded beats open the single. A tempestuous Madonna tells the man she's heard of his spacious, multi-million dollar home and the posh contents inside. His bed is lined with finely threaded satin sheets. He has the rarest wines. His suits are imported from England. Madonna slyly says she knows of something else he would enjoy.
"You've got style, that's what all the girls say/Satin sheets and luxuries so fine/All your suits are custom made in London/But I've got something that you'll really like."
In the chorus she says she will adorn him with passionate kisses.
" Gonna dress you up in my love/All over, all over/Gonna dress you up in my love/All over your body."
In the second verse, she says her smooth stroking of his face will rival the fabric of his expensive garments. The faint touch of her creamy lips will cause him to glow.
"Feel the silky touch of my caresses/They will keep you looking so brand new/Let me cover you with velvet kisses/I'll create a look that's made for you."
After the chorus, the turns from flushed to milky. Madonna sings the verse again. However, she adds that she will love from his finely combed hair to his shiny, polished shoes.
"Gonna dress you up in my love, in my love/All over your body, all over your body/In my love/All over, all over/
From your head down to your toes."
In "Dress You Up" Madonna has a quiet sexual energy throbbing throughout the single. She's cunning but coy. She's savvy enough to know a bit of mystery will make him interested. The single is a harkens back to an era where dance music was both intelligent and sensual.
